Covid screening at the airport on Monday BHUBANESWAR: The state’s daily Covid tally on Monday crossed 500. It reported 573 Covid cases after more than four months. The last time Odisha reported more than 573 cases was on November 27, 2020. For the second consecutive day, Sundargarh district reported a high number of cases 80 but it was Khurda, once the state’s Covid hotspot, that reclaimed its position at the top of the infection charts with 96 cases. On Sunday, Khurda had reported 40 cases. Nine of the 10 western Odisha districts where night curfew was enforced from Monday together reported 290 cases. Southern Odisha’s Malkangiri and coastal Dhenkanal did not report any cases.

It also raised the issue of loss in power sector. BJP state general secretary Lekhashri Samantsinghar at a press conference here on Monday lashed out at the state government for awarding contracts to ineligible private companies for setting up of power transformers in different parts of the state. According to the CAG report, the state government has lost Rs 175 crore in this process. “Why the government hesitates to rope in government companies for this work? The reason is very clear that the government wants favour from these companies,” said Samantsinghar.

The college has advised students who have come in contact with the infected person to isolate themselves for at least seven days and go for RT-PCR test.
