If you found yourself on Western Avenue in Augusta about lunch time today you may have noticed a bunch of blue t-shirt wearing students making their way around St. Michaels Catholic School. It was hard to miss all those students.but what was going on?
It was a walk-a-thon to help raise funds to help cover the cost for a family to spend time at the The Travis Mills retreat.
Due to the pandemic trying to get this years walk-a-thon off the ground was no easy task, according to centralmaine.com, a few parents from students at the school had students start walking a month ago and the second part was done today outside at the school in perfect weather.
Due to the relatively mild winter we had, this spring is just over flowing with ticks. I ve already had several encounters myself, as well as on the dogs, and that s even extensive lawn and yard treatments.
Of course the main concern is contracting a tick borne illness, which there are several and none of them are anything you want to struggle with if you can avoid it.
The Hidden Valley Nature Center, which is part of the Midcoast Conservancy in Jefferson is hosting a Tick Talk this Saturday, May 22nd from 10am-12pm according to an announcement by the non-profit organization. Robin Huntley, who is an outdoor educator will make the presentation.
KIA Recalling Almost Half Million Vehicles For Engine Fires
If you own a KIA Sorento or a KIA Optima or know someone that does, heads up, there has just been a second recall issued that will effect almost a half million vehicles according to a report by ABC news.
440,000 SUVs and sedans are being recalled due to the potential for engine fires to ignite. The vehicles in question are 2013-2015 Optima sedans, and 2014-2015 Sorentos.
If you recall these are the same vehicles that were subject to a recall last year due to fluid leakage that caused electrical shorts and increased the possibility of engine fires. This was a concern as it could happen even when a vehicle was parked.
