The number of people dying from coronavirus in Ayrshire has been revealed and it s good news for North and East Ayrshire as numbers are down, South Ayrshire however, saw a slight increase. The National Records of Scotland revealed the information in their weekly statistical update detailing how many people died of coronavirus last week. The figures cover the period from January 25-31 and show that 440 deaths relating to COVID-19 were registered in Scotland, down 12 on the previous week. Of these, the majority were in hospital at 301, with 97 in care homes, 38 at home or in a non-institutional setting and four in other institutions.

Of the areas in the top 200, there are 43 areas in Glasgow City with rates higher than 217.3 per 100,000. As of January 17, the report has confirmed that 7,448 deaths have been registered in Scotland where the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was mentioned on the death certificate.
