The night curfew will come into force from Monday. “In the interest of the general public and to prevent transmission of infection, it is directed that night curfew in the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri will be in force from April 5 till further orders,” said Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra iss

Updated: Share Article AAA A former MLA in Odisha was arrested and sent to jail for stopping a tourist and robbing him of ₹30,000 in Kandhamal district on Tuesday. The former MLA, identified as Debendra Kanhar, and his acquaintance Srinivas Kanhar, a havildar in the India Reserve Battalion, were accused of attacking a tourist on the Urumagarh road and snatching money from him on February 9. The tourist, Kamakhi Behera of Dhenkanal district, had lodged a police complaint on February 11. The accused were produced before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate, Phulbani, who remanded them in 14 days’ judicial custody. Earlier, a sex tape purportedly involving the ex-MLA had surfaced. Subsequently, a woman had lodged complaint that Kanhar was stalking her and he along with his another associate forcibly entered her house and misbehaved with her. Later he was arrested from Andhra Pradesh.

Ashram chief in Odisha gets threat calls India Updated: Sunday, February 21, 2021, 14:30 [IST] Phulbani, Feb 21: The chief of a Kanya ashram in Odisha s Kandhamal district founded by VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati has received threat calls prompting the police to tighten the security in the ashram, an officer said on Sunday. The chief of Gurukul Sanskrit Kanya ashram at Jalespatta, Swami Jivanmuktananda Puri has lodged a formal complaint at Timudibandha Police Station, about 125 km from the district headquarters Phulbani town, seeking security after receiving two threat calls in the last 24-hours. While the first threat call was received on Saturday evening, the next one came on Sunday morning from the same telephone number. The police have tightened security in the ashram by deploying armed forces keeping in view of the sensitivity of the case, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Baliguda, Manoj Pujari told PTI.
