The COVID-19 crisis and the closing of the Leon County Courthouse amidst threats of violence this weekend have caused the annual pre-session meeting of local lawmakers and constituents to be held online next week.
State Sen. Loranne Ausley, D-Tallahassee, will chair the meeting. Attending will be state Reps. Jason Shoaf, R-Port St. Joe, Ramon Alexander, D-Tallahassee and Allison Tant, D-Tallahassee. (Shoaf s Panhandle district includes part of Leon.)
Legislation under review includes a bill on Roberts, a late Florida Supreme Court justice. The building name issue was one of many rallying cries for protesters this past summer after the deaths of Black people at the hands of police around the country, including George Floyd in Minneapolis.

The Black Landscapes That Matter
Black landscapes matter.
Or they should but centuries of oppression followed by disinvestment have led to the erasure of many places important to Black history, and the histories behind them.
That must change.
If spaces and landscapes are to reflect America as it is, then America as it is must be able to see itself in America s spaces and landscapes.

A Record Year for Catch a Florida Memory Fishing Program

Almost 1,400 participants and partners participated in Catch a Florida Memory, a program that encourages anglers to learn more about Florida’s vast recreational fishing opportunities by enticing them to target multiple species during fishing trips, garnering more than 15,000 saltwater fish submissions and 2,800 achievements.
“Having your support and watching you all make the most out of this strange year has inspired us as we prepare for some real big things in 2021,” said the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in a statement. “But before we re-bait the hook for next year, we would like to look back at what has been a grand slam of a fishing year for so many of you.”

As we enter the season of giving, we’d like to give a “reel” big thank you to all our nearly 1,400 Catch a Florida Memory participants and partners who helped us reach over 15,000 saltwater fish submissions and 2,800 achievements recognized so far! Having your support and watching you all make the most out of this strange year has inspired us as we prepare for some real big things in 2021. But before we re-bait the hook for next year, we would like to look back at what has been a grand slam of a fishing year for so many of you.
