(MSCPA photo) Facebook Share NORTHAMPTON – A Holyoke man pled guilty Thursday to badly mistreating hundreds of roosters, that he had trained for illegal cockfighting, which were found during a raid 2018 raid of a small farm in the Florence section of the city. Miguel Rodriguez, 59, was sentenced to serve two years of probation, the first six months of which will be in home confinement and while wearing a GPS monitoring device, after admitting in Northampton District Court to felony charges of animal cruelty and owning, possessing and training animals for fighting, said Mary Carey, spokeswoman for Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan.

Chatham-Kent police deal with variety of thefts

Chatham-Kent police were kept busy dealing with a variety of thefts on Saturday. Police said a Chatham man was seen hiding items at a local store before leaving without paying for them. The property was recovered and returned to the store, police said. A break and enter on Sheldon Avenue is under investigation after an apartment was entered and personal items were tossed around in an attempt to look for valuables, police said.
