Watertown Daily Times The state Department of Environmental Conservation this week released its two-year progress report on Great Lakes restoration, noting 103 of 124 actions have progressed since being written in 2015. The 20-page report details 2018-20 progress across several projects on Lake Erie, the St. Lawrence River, Genesee River, Black River and the Finger Lakes, as well as the state’s areas of concern listed by the federal government. Prepared as part of the DEC’s Great Lakes Program, the report is based on the Great Lakes Action Agenda, a set of multi-year restoration and management goals that involve local, state and federal plans. The program and agenda are driven by an ecosystems-based management approach, which prioritizes environmental restoration and resource management simultaneously with community resiliency and stewardship.

MADRID – With a commitment to community, a local chef and his family have opened the doors of The Blue House restaurant, at 3736 County Route 14, overlooking the Grasse River.
Josh Taillon along with his wife Alicia, and toddler Clementine hosted the soft opening of the new farm-to-table restaurant for take-out only the weekend of January 16 with food selling out. With a wood-fire oven and grill, pizza and lasagna are topping the menu the first couple of weeks.
“We plan to have different offerings each week, as we get going,” Taillon said, who is proud to show off the unique features of the rehabbed house, located in the center of the village.

CANTON A public workshop for a Grasse River Blueway Marketing Plan will be held Thursday, Jan. 21 on the Zoom platform.
The Town of Canton is leading a cooperative effort among towns, villages, and hamlets from the Town of Russell to the Town of Massena to develop the marketing plan for the Grasse River Blueway, said a press release from organizers.
The marketing plan will help attract residents and visitors to the Grasse River corridor for sustainable tourism and recreation that strikes a balance between economic development and preservation of the corridor s open spaces and natural resources.
