Ciaran pens page-turning thriller in Cladagh Glen - The Fermanagh Herald

Ciaran pens page-turning thriller in Cladagh Glen Posted: 3:49 pm March 8, 2021 By Zoe Tunney CIARAN MCMENAMIN has written his ode to Fermanagh in his second book, a page-turning thriller and story of heart-breaking love and friendship. When a pivotal scene in the book, takes the female and male protagonists on a chase through Fermanagh countryside to the freedom of the Irish Republic, the detail about the landscape and atmosphere, terrain and sky is drawn from Ciaran’s treasured memories of a childhood spent running all over the land at his grandparents’ home. “The Sunken Road” may have as its backdrop World War One and the events which took place on the border at the Battle of Pettigo in 1921, but it is much more about its main character, a woman, who is intelligent and well-read, strong, feisty and capable but, as Ciaran said, “Must wait to see who will marry her to find out how her life will turn out.”

Scottish Panoramas: a memorial to the man who formed the SAS

David Stirling Memorial TRAVEL north from Stirling on the motorway and at the roundabout before Dunblane take the first left onto the B824. The road dips and rises and then the landscape opens up as the Trossachs fill your vision. That’s where you will find the memorial to David Stirling. Erected in 2002 and designed by Angela Conner, it is a tribute to a man who was born at Keir House in the family estate nearby, Lieutenant Colonel Sir Archibald David Stirling, DSO, OBE, and to the elite military unit he set up in 1941, the Special Air Service. Memorial plaques to those members of the SAS who have lost their lives in service of their country are also part of the memorial.

Reverend Steve Jones: What makes a great leader?

My own observation is that leaders and managers are often different types of people. While managers tend to attempt to get things done right, leaders are usually working on doing the right things. Managers can tend to be detail-oriented people, whereas leaders are often ‘big picture’ types. Great leaders significantly enhance the success of a nation, business, or organisation, and tend to improve the overall quality of life for individuals in their care. I think that there are probably at least four things that great leaders do which help them to achieve significant things. Firstly, great leaders are visionaries. They are people who can see over the horizon, sense a forthcoming opportunity or risk, and then lead their people into a safer and more preferable future.
