1 dead in Provo car crash Tuesday

PROVO Police have identified a driver who died after his car was hit while pulling out of a restaurant parking lot near 400 North and 900 East in Provo on Tuesday, officials said. Around 4 p.m. a car was pulling out of a Taco Bell parking lot when another vehicle hit it, according to Provo Police Sgt. Nisha King. The car was T-boned by the other vehicle, killing the driver. King said that the driver who was killed was attending school in Provo. He was identified Wednesday as Joseph Spencer, 22, police said in a tweet. The crash is being investigated, but officials say it s too early to determine if speed or alcohol was a factor. Further information about the crash was not released.

Provo man fires 20 rounds at brother s car, hits nearby apartments, police say

PROVO A man who police say got into an argument with his brother was arrested after allegedly firing at least 20 rounds from a rifle at his brother s car, causing some bullets to go into nearby apartments. Jose Alexander Acevedo Tapia, 34, of Provo, was booked into the Utah County Jail early Monday for investigation of criminal mischief and illegal discharge of a firearm. Sunday night, police say Tapia got into an argument with his brother at his apartment. Both men live at the Boulders Apartment Complex, 750 S. 650 West in Provo, but in separate units. Tapia alleges that he was threatened by his brother, the affidavit states.
