Muscat: As many as 13 people were arrested for setting fire to various locations in Oman.
The Royal Oman Police said: Al Buraimi Governorate Police Command arrested 13 people for their involvement in setting fire to public places and properties, and is taking the necessary legal measures against them.

Papers on e-learning, distance education presented at virtual forum for teachers

Muscat: The first virtual forum for teachers of information technology (IT) in private schools began on Wednesday.
The event was held by the Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Private Schools, under the patronage of Dr Ali bin Salim Al Shukaili, Director-General of the Directorate General of Private Schools, in the presence of Dr Khadija Bint Ali Al Salamiyah, Assistant Director-General for Educational Affairs at the Directorate General of Private Schools.
The two-day forum targets information technology teachers in private schools in all the governorates, of which about 100 participants attended the first day.
Muscat: Oman’s Meteorology (MET) department has issued an alert on temperature surge for the next couple of days, which could see the mercury touching 50 degrees Celsius. The capital is already reeling under intense heat with hot wind blowing throughout the day. Leading health institutions as well as Ministry of Health social media handles have issued tips on coping with the intense hot days, such as limiting going outside and staying hydrated.
The weather alert from Oman MET warned that the heat wave over North and South Batinah regions comprising of towns such as Sohar, Saham, Rustaq and Barka and Muscat governorate are due to the active westerly winds. The warning also included Al Wusta, Buraimi and Dhahira regions that will be impacted due to the winds that could lead to sandstorms, apart from surging temperatures.
