As a professional numismatist who has worked for some of the biggest companies in the industry, I have had the honor of being a part of the sale of some of the greatest coins in existence, from ancient to modern times.
Most recently, having cataloged the
Bruce Morelan Collection of early type and silver dollars, I have had the honor of having the finest
1794 dollar (the most expensive coin ever sold) and the
Dexter-Dunham-Pogue 1804 dollar cross my desk. As someone who has cataloged such great rarities, one might think “why could someone like that want to own that could top those seven-figure rarities?” My list is going to be completely different than anything you would expect. Each of the 10 coins listed below would form the “core” of a collection that would explain who Greg Cohen is, as a numismatist and history buff. These 10 pieces almost make up a numismatic biography of myself.
In addition to performing well in public internet sales, CAC-approved coins outperformed other certified coins in a live auction in
Dallas during the month of January. Here are 10 examples, which were selected from a large number of results that could have been listed.
1. 1805 Quarter in AG-03
On January 3,
Heritage Auctions sold a PCGS-graded AG-03 1805 quarter without a CAC sticker for $180.
2. 1831 Small Letters Quarter in AU-58
On January 3, GreatCollections sold a CAC-approved AU-58 grade 1831 ‘Small Letters’ quarter for $2,475. On August 7, 2020,
Stack’s Bowers auctioned a PCGS-graded AU-58 1831 ‘Small Letters’ quarter without a CAC sticker for $1,140, less than half as much.
3. 1918 Standing Liberty Quarter in MS-66 FH

This is the strongest rare coin market we’ve seen in years. TEMECULA, Calif. (PRWEB) January 06, 2021 It was the year of pandemic-related cancelled coin shows, but 2020 still resulted in one of the strongest U.S. rare coin and paper money markets in recent years, according to a year-end survey of major auction houses conducted by the Professional Numismatists Guild (http://www.PNGdealers.org), a nonprofit organization composed of many of the country’s top rare coin and paper money dealers.
