Today show was particularly daunting. Chung often sat alongside Gumbel when she subbed for Jane Pauley on the NBC morning show in the 1980s, but explained she felt like she was alone. I d be sitting beside him, but I was invisible, Chung said of Gumbel. While she didn t initially have a chummy relationship with Gumbel, who was the Emmy-winning lead anchor on Today from 1982- 1997, Chung said things did eventually change between them. You know, in recent years he s become a different guy, she said. He married a wonderful woman [Hilary Quinlan]. She said, Whatever it is between the two of you, we re not doing that anymore.

To save islanders from randomly driving around, the Christmas House Decorating Committee drove every street on the island, found the “best and brightest” lightshows, and chose their top ten. On Friday evening, the committee boarded an (open-air) trolley, with banners reading “Here Comes the Judge” for those old enough to remember Flip Wilson’s variety show and toured each entrant to pick an overall winner for 2020.
