The Pune police, a forensic team and officials from three Maharashtra government agencies on Friday started an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire at the Serum Institute of India’s premises, reported PTI. The blaze claimed five lives.
“Our investigation started today afternoon,” Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta said on Friday. “Our crime branch team, [and] a forensic team reached the spot to begin the probe.”

PUNE: The Serum Institute of India (SII) on Friday said it has suffered losses of over Rs 1,000 crore due to the devastating fire on Thursday even as Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said that probe will reveal if the blaze was an accident or a sabotage.
Five contractual labourers died in the fire that broke out in a five-storey building in the SII s Manjari premises in Pune.
The chief minister visited the SII on Friday to take stock of the damages. He later addressed a press conference, where Adar Poonawalla, chief executive officer (CEO) of the SII was also present.

Serum Institute of India to look into the fire incident that claimed five lives.
Along with Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawalla, they inspected the site where the fire broke out and took stock of the damages. They also interacted with the officials to get further details about the mishap.
The Serum Institute said it has suffered losses of over Rs 1,000 crore due to the devastating fire. Talking to reporters, Poonawalla said, The extent of the damage is more than Rs 1,000 crore because of the equipment and products over there that were to be launched.
