Bloodstock announce replacement Saturday night headliner, add three more bands
As Mercyful Fate unfortunately pull out of Bloodstock 2021, the festival have announced the headliner’s replacement – as well as three more bands.
Words: Emily Carter
Though planned headliners Mercyful Fate have sadly had to pull out of this August’s Bloodstock (though they will be topping the bill at next year’s metal weekender), the festival have announced an awesome replacement for the Saturday night of the event: Kreator.
The German thrashers will now join Friday headliner Devin Townsend and Sunday evening’s Judas Priest, with frontman Mille Petrozza enthusing: “We are very excited to headline the Bloodstock festival for the first time! This means a lot to Kreator since all the previous shows we have played there were exceptional! We promise you the most brutal show Bloodstock has ever seen! Be prepared!”

CROSSOVER THRASH: These riffs are so addicting! Richmond, Virginia crossover thrash metal band Enforced has released its second full-length album
Kill Grid. The brutal quintet featuring bassist Ethan Gensurowsky, drummer Alex Bishop, vocalist Knox Colby, and guitarists Will Wagstaff and Zach Monahan has created nine pummeling thrash attacks that explode like a heatseeking missile upon imminent impact. With an extreme amalgam of thrash, punk, death metal, and hardcore, Enforced walks a similar path as Power Trip, Plague Years, Iron Age, and the like.
Formed in 2016 out of the ashes of various hardcore and punk bands, Enforced rapidly became a live fixture within the Richmond local scene by sharing stages with the likes of Sacred Reich, Red Death, and fellow brethren Iron Reagan. Catching the attention of Century Media with its 2019 debut album
Awakening ‘, Arizona thrash veterans Sacred Reich will re-release their early back-catalogue on 12th February 2020. ‘
Ignorance ‘, ‘
Surf Nicaragua ‘ (EP) and ‘
The American Way ‘ are all re-introduced in what can only be described as an unforgettable trip through nostalgia. You know that feeling you get when you hear a song and it takes you back to your youth, and you then wish you were back in that time? Well, that’s how I feel now as ‘
Layed To Rest ‘ from ‘
Ignorance ‘ floods through my headphones.
Oozing a plethora of formats (below) this really is a show-and-tell of what were one of the most influential, yet under-rated bands of the late 80’s / early 90’s. The actual albums themselves sound a little fresher, definately louder, but what is impressive is that they still contain that ‘tape’ sound. You can’t beat it.
