Panaji: Pitaji Vasco do Rego SJ remembered as Crusader of Konkani

Panaji, Feb 18: It is a Herculean task to write the obituary of a multifaceted and multitalented personality like that of Fr Vasco do Rego, SJ, a Jesuit priest of Goa province. He was fondly known as Pitaji (means father) among his friends and followers. He was born on January 8, 1925 at Panaji, Goa. His parents were Antonio Augusto do Rego and Aurora Maria Helena Correia Afonso do Rego. His father was a known doctor. He was the grandson of Roque and Claudina Correia Afonso, a couple from Benaulim who had seven priests among their 52 grandchildren. Fr Renato do Rego of the Goa archdiocese was his brother.

Mayor Campbell Barry was on hand for the Quilting Symposium 2022 Bernina Sewing Machine draw on Tuesday 16 February.
The sewing machine prize was an incentive for pre-registration to the 2022 Quilting Symposium, (A quilting Fiesta!), scheduled to be held in Lower Hutt in October 2022.
Mayor Barry said, “Lower Hutt is proud to have been selected as the location for this event and looks forward to welcoming quilters here in 2022.”

Symposium convener Debra De Lorenzo and
General Manager of Bernina Glyn Singleton were also on hand
to witness the draw which was won by Madalyn Brewer
The norther façade of the multi-purpose facility showcases a curved roof as a bold architectural statement. The ground floor of the building incorporates a ‘Hall of Fame’ display area allowing the College to showcase its achievements. Change rooms and weight training area have been provided in the basement, an innovative solution, which saves space on the ground floor and provides direct access to the oval. The viewing stand located on the western side of the reflects the materials and roof lines of the multi-purpose facility.
