A LONG-mooted plan which could regenerate Barrow has taken a further step forward. The Marina Village plan is one of seven key projects chosen for further development through the £25m Brilliant Barrow initiative to help transform the town. The scheme has been in the pipeline since 2007 and could include around 650 homes and new leisure facilities. And now a scoping report has been published which has sought the views of relevant organisations ahead of works to get the site ready ahead of marketing it to private investors. Councillor Ann Thomson, the leader of Barrow Borough Council, said: “No authority wants to see land or property sitting unused if it could be brought back to life in a way that enhances the area for local people or the public good.
CRAZY golf, an adventure park and an ice cream parlour are just some of the suggestions made by Barrow pupils to develop an area at Earnse Bay. After Barrow secured £25million from the Government s Towns Fund, plans are being put in place on how the town can be developed - and ideas are being sought from some of the youngest minds. Year Three Pupils at Victoria Academy were invited to Earnse Bay to discuss how the area could benefit from major investment. Teacher, Joanne Stanway said: The team at Brilliant Barrow wanted to hear the children s viewpoints on what they d like the area turned into.
Plans to develop a university site in Barrow have taken a step forward.
The University of Cumbria has signed a partnership agreement with Lancaster University to support the project.
The universities will collaborate on research partnerships with local businesses and on courses offering the best subject strengths from both higher education institutions.
The University of Cumbria’s plans for a Barrow campus will see it work closely with key businesses, including BAE Systems, and Furness College, in order to ensure that courses prepare graduates for career success through higher level skills.
It will work closely with key partners in Barrow, including the Brilliant Barrow board and Barrow Borough Council.
