SANDY CREEK â Gary S. Waterman always wanted to go further and faster on skis, and his experiences in how he literally harnessed that gift inspired him to begin a book about it.
But at age 53 and in the summer of 2000, he could go no further â his final race run at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester due to the deadly stopping power of acute myelogenous leukemia.
After a second bone marrow transplant that failed to get the desired results and as he found himself about to be hooked up to a respirator and knowing the consequences, Gary asked his wife, Betsy B. Waterman to do a favor: Would she finish his book on their wonderful life with dogs and the sport of skijoring?

Originally, Mrs. Scee was only going to create a book for her family, perhaps using Shutterfly, something to hand down in her family because, as she noted, losing both parents is a jarring thing to have happen, and you want your grandchildren who never met them, your great-grandchildren who will be coming along someday, to know them.
