(WECT) - Former New Hanover High School student and two-sport star, Trot Nixon, who became a standout baseball player with the Boston Red Sox is to be inducted into the North Carolina Hall of Fame April 30. As a high school senior, Nixon was named the North Carolina player of the year in both football and baseball and was named Baseball America’s national player of the year.

Parchies in downtown Wilmington, NC to close at the end of the month

After weeks of speculation and rumors, it s been confirmed that longtime Wilmington restaurant Parchies at the corner of Princess and N. 12th streets downtown will close on April 20. Owner and Wilmington native Dave Wishon has run the eatery that specializes in fried chicken and barbecue and other classic fare for more than 37 years. During that time, the gathering place behind New Hanover High School has welcomed a diverse cross section of locals for breakfast and lunch service.

David Bostian: Ex-students, players react to educator s death

Neighbors and community members are reacting after a New Hanover County assistant principal was found dead Friday morning. The body of David Bostian was found at a home located at 3304 Tipton Court when officers from the Wilmington Police Department responded to a 911 call around 9:05 a.m. Fire trucks responded to the scene first followed by the police, according to a neighbor who watched the response. The neighbor - who did not want to be identified - said they didn t know the cause of death or have any further information. The death comes after allegations that Bostian had an inappropriate relationship with a student in 1992. 

New Hanover principal found dead after allegations of student relationship

An assistant principal at Noble Middle School was found dead Friday morning after allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship with a student. Officers with the Wilmington Police Department responded to a 911 call around 9:05 a.m. Friday to 3304 Tipton Court. There they found the body of David Eugene Bostian, 59, according to Jessica Williams, the department s public affairs officer. Bostian was arrested earlier on Friday by the New Hanover County Sheriff s Office. Police are at the scene and the investigation into Bostian s death is ongoing, Williams said. The cause of death has not been released. A former student reported earlier this week that she had an ongoing relationship with Bostian in 1992 while she was a student at New Hanover High School and he was a teacher at the school, according to Lt. Jerry Brewer, the public information officer for the New Hanover County Sheriff s Office. The student was 16 at the time of the relationship.
