Tech Ed Gets Boost From State Among Several Area School Districts

(WHBL) – Advanced manufacturing in Wisconsin has heightened the demand for skilled workers, and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development is helping several area school districts prepare students for those jobs before they leave high school. The Kohler, New Holstein and Random Lake School Districts are among 16 in the state that were granted a total of over $440,000 through the Expanded Wisconsin Fast Forward Technical Education Equipment Grant Program. Kohler Schools will use over $8,000 to purchase, and instruct students on programmable logic controller and electronic sensor learning systems, while the New Holstein district will use over $5,000 to support it’s “Fab Lab Manufacturing Learning Center” and to purchase a Gunsmithing Lathe.

New milking record, North Dakota droughts and Wisconsin events return John Oncken Bob Hageman, president of the Board of Directors of World Dairy Expo, recently  announced that World Dairy Expo 2021 (the 54th edition) will go on as scheduled  Sept. 28 to Oct. 2, 2021. The event is scheduled for Expo’s historic home, the Alliant Energy Center near Madison. “This announcement comes after thorough consideration of the pandemic issues,” Hageman says.  Now comes the question – will the dairy cattle and crowds return to the Expo after a year of it not being held, knowing the pandemic may still be in force during Expo time?

Bike ride raises funds for beginning farmers The annual Ride to Farm event will be held June 5. The bicycle ride raises awareness and funds for the Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy and Livestock Farmers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The ride will begin and end at Birch Lake Park in Barneveld, Wisconsin. A morning rest stop is planned at Uplands Cheese and Grass Dairy near Dodgeville. A lunch rest stop is planned at Taliesin Riverside Terrace Cafe near Spring Green. And an afternoon rest stop is planned at the Cates Family Farm. All three stops will have locally sourced food for participants.

Car strikes 16-year-old horseback rider in Calumet County, victim in critical condition It happened around 1:30 p.m. Officials say the 16-year-old rider was flighted by ThedaStar to the hospital and is in critical condition. According to deputies, the horse and rider were traveling eastbound when it abruptly went into the roadway. Officials say the horse and rider were then struck by an oncoming westbound traveling car. The vehicle occupants and the horse were not injured, according to police. Sheriff’s deputies were additionally assisted by Kiel Police Department, Kiel, New Holstein, & St. Anna Fire Departments, and Kiel Ambulance. Share this article:
