STEWART AIRPORT – Citing the continuing need for commercial plots, the Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. is launching a new RedTail Flight Academy at New York Stewart International Airport.
The organization has received the donation of a corporate helicopter, which it has sold to finance the purchase of up to six small airplanes to be used in the flight academy training.
Glen Fraser, who is the immediate past-president of the Tuskegee Airmen chapter, said this new program will accept six post-high school students initially to participate in the one-year program that will result in the students earning their commercial pilot’s license.
Analysis
Although the United States has failed to sell the idea of leasing its airport terminals to the private sector over almost 25 years since the first airport privatisation programme was initiated, various events have made the public-private initiative (PPP OR P3) more popular with municipal owners.
Now the P3 is shifting into other areas of operation, with people movers and consolidated car rental facilities top of the list.

NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. â The New York International Air Show will be returning in 2021, Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus said.
The popular event had been held until this year at New York Stewart International Airport. It was shifted to the smaller Orange County Airport a few miles away and because of COVID-19, was only a drive-in event.
COVID or not, Neuhaus said the event will return in August with a lineup that will include the F-22 Raptor fighter jets again.

âIt was the biggest event in New York State despite COVID. It happened successfully. By the way, Florida stole our plan and did two or three air shows with our model, which is great,â he said. âBut, they (the F-22s) are coming here. It is on our schedule. It says New Windsor, but it may be Montgomery again. If we donât do it at Stewart again, we will do it at Orange County Airport.â
