The final embers of the New York Rangers playoff hopes were extinguished Monday night. But thanks to Tom Wilson, there s plenty of intrigue as the Rangers prepare to begin playing out the string Wednesday night.
Wilson, the Washington Capitals polarizing enforcer, will be the center of attention Wednesday night, when the Capitals visit the Rangers in the final game of the season between the two longtime rivals.
The rivalry grew more heated in the opener of the two-game series in New York on Monday night, when Wilson drew four penalties and added an empty-net goal to finish off the Capitals 6-3 win.

Jake Guentzel scored the winning goal in overtime as the Pittsburgh Penguins punched their ticket to the NHL postseason with a 5-4 win over the Washington Capitals, who also earned a playoff spot.
Guentzel scored 2:11 into the extra session in Thursday s battle between the two clubs who are tied for first place in the East Division with 69 points.
The Penguins-Capitals outcome, combined with the fifth-place New York Rangers 4-0 loss to the New York Islanders, allowed Pittsburgh to earn its 15th straight playoff spot.
