He sculpts, blacksmiths, welds, makes prints and drawings, carves and even weaves. The Durham-based artist known for a focus on social justice and incorporating historical context said he tries “just about anything I get my hands on.” “I love trying to give things new meaning. I don’t have a preferred medium,” said Hayes, whose work will be on display at Elder Gallery of Contemporary Art in Charlotte from March 5-April 24 in an exhibit titled “Beyond Any Means.”

Making art is Benjamin Rosenthal’s raison d’être. The associate professor of visual art took some qualified risks and expended great effort during the pandemic year of 2020 to make some work. The result is an eight-minute video titled “the gleaners, and: ritual for signaled bodies” that he produced in collaboration with Eric Souther, assistant professor of video art at the New York State College of Ceramics (NYSCC), School of Art and Design at Alfred University.

Lucy Lacoste Gallery opens a solo exhibition of new works by Paul S. Briggs A sculpture from the Poetry Series with connected correlating poem. CONCORD, MASS .-Lucy Lacoste Gallery is presenting a solo exhibition of new works by the Massachusetts artist Paul S. Briggs, Intuitive Responses: Poetic Justice in Clay February 13- March 13, 2021. The center piece of this exhibition will be six sculptures, each inspired by a specific poem written by a noted Black poet. These poets include Lucille Clifton, Sonia Sanchez, Langston Hughes, Harryette Mullen, Maya Angelou and Audre Lorde. A sculpture inspired by Amanda Gorman and her inauguration poem is in the making and may be ready for the opening. There will be a poetry reading connected to this exhibition, with Black performers of the spoken word reading each poem, after which the artist will discuss the correlating sculpture.

The map covers the entire Adirondack Mountain region, extending from Saratoga to Plattsburg, and from Lewis County to Lake George and Lake Champlain. The map was made on behalf of the State Fisheries, game Commission for administrative purposes. The boundaries of the Adirondack State Park are defined by a bold blue line. Additional color coding designates the state of various lands. Pink shading identifies state forest preserve lands, yellow illustrates those lands bought or contract by the Forest Preserve Board, and lighter pink lands in which the state has joint ownership.
