New York will adopt the recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines starting Wednesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said at a press briefing Monday.
âWe have to reopen, we have to reopen smart, we have to reopen with a cautious eye,â Cuomo said. âWe have to get back to life and living. And we have to do it the way New Yorkers do it, we have to do it quickly and robustly.â
Starting Wednesday people in New York who are fully vaccinated will no longer need to wear a mask or social distance except where it is required by federal, state, local, tribal or territorial laws, rules and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. At 2%, Staten Island has the highest seven-day average of positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases across the five boroughs, just above Brooklyn’s 1.98% positivity rate.
However, the borough’s 2% positivity rate on Monday is lower than Sunday’s 2.05% and Saturday’s 2.10%, according to state data. Citywide the seven-day average of positive test results is 1.65% and 1.76% statewide.

There were 131,436 COVID-19 tests administered in New York on Sunday, April 11, according to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, resulting in 4,926 newly confirmed infections for a 3.75 percent positive infection rate, down over the weekend.
There were 58 new COVID-19-related deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
A total of 36 percent of New Yorkers have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 32.1 percent are fully vaccinated.
As of April 12, 791,226 first doses have been administered to Hudson Valley residents, while 481,806 have completed the process, both among the highest rates in the state. While we have made incredible progress, COVID is not over and we must all continue to practice the guidelines we know stop this virus in its tracks, Cuomo said. The ability to win the footrace between the infection rates and the vaccine rates is dependent on the behavior of New Yorkers.
