Some of the biggest names in New Zealand literature are
descending on New Plymouth District this month to celebrate
Puke Ariki’s Festival of Words.

Dyane Hosler says public interest in the festival is growing
with a number of the scheduled events already sold out and
limited tickets for the rest of the bookable performances
available

speakers, writing and poetry workshops, comedy and

A jury in New Plymouth District Court found Nikorima Karaitiana guilty on two charges of indecent assault.
A 60-year-old man has been found guilty of kissing a young girl on the lips and telling her he wanted to father her children. Nikorima Karaitiana defended two historical charges of indecently assaulting a female aged 12 to 16 in New Plymouth District Court. The jury trial began on Wednesday and verdicts were delivered Friday afternoon. The court heard Karaitiana took the girl swimming several years ago when she was about 12 or 13. It was then that he held the girl in a hug and kissed her on the lips, trying to put his tongue into her mouth.
