NEW BEDFORD The Day of Portugal celebration in New Bedford has been cancelled due to coronavirus concerns for the second year.
“Given the continuing situation we are all experiencing due to the Covid-19 outbreak, I regret to have to inform that the Day of Portugal celebrations in New Bedford, scheduled for June 11, 12 and 13, 2021, are cancelled,” announced Dulce Matos, president of the New Bedford Day of Portugal Committee, this week.
Due to the unpredictability of the impact of this virus, Matos said the committee thought it was better to anticipate this cancellation.
“For the second consecutive year we are forced not to hold these festivities,” Matos said. “The times we are living in have led to many unprecedented decisions on all fronts and like other decisions this one is based on the safety and well being of the population as well as the restrictions imposed by the authorities.”
