NEW HAVEN Reporting a “slack in demand” for vaccines that protect against COVID-19, a top medical official with the Yale New Haven Health system said he is “worried” about the state reaching herd immunity.
“Right around 55 percent of the state vaccinated: half is there and half has not yet been vaccinated,” said Yale New Haven Heath Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Thomas Balcezak.

Doctors at Yale New Haven Hospital are experiencing an uptick in serious COVID-19 cases among younger patients.
In a press conference, Dr. Thomas Balcezak, Chief Medical Officer of YNNH shared that there are currently six pediatric patients in Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital with COVID-19, including two patients in the ICU. One of those ICU patients is a 21-year-old who was placed on a ventilator.
Yale New Haven Hospital officials also shared that in-patient treatment has increased by 25% over the last two weeks.
