NEW HAVEN The funeral for a city firefighter who died while battling a fire on Valley Street has been scheduled for Thursday.
Ricardo Torres Jr., 30, left behind his wife, Erica Martinez, who is pregnant, and son Oliver Torres, according to his obituary.

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) - A New Haven firefighter is being remembered after he died in the line of duty while battling a fire very early Wednesday morning.
Chief John Alston of the New Haven Fire Department identified the firefighter as Ricardo Torres Jr.
The fire broke out around 1 a.m. at a multi-family home on Valley Street overnight.
Minutes after crews arrived, firefighters said they rescued a woman inside.
A New Haven firefighter died while battling a fire on Wednesday. Companies on arrival saw heavy fire, flames, Alston. [There was a] report of multiple occupants trapped.

NEW HAVEN Firefighter Ricardo Torres was recalled Wednesday as someone who had a deep love help of helping others, a warm sense of humor and a lifelong goal of being part of fire service.
Torres died Wednesday while fighting a fire on Valley Street. He joined the department in July 2019, serving on Engine 6.
Local 825 union President Patrick Cannon, backed by dozens of firefighters, said Wednesday the men and women of the department were hurting.
Torres “was doing the job he always dreamed of doing,” Cannon said, and paid with his life.
