(Submitted photo) From Upper Peninsula Health Care Solutions MARQUETTE On behalf of its 14 member hospitals, Upper Peninsula Health Care Solutions has made a $25,000 donation to Great Lakes Recovery Centers in support of its project to expand recovery services and relocate the Men’s New Hope House. GLRC’s Men’s New Hope House is a 16-bed residential facility for males over the age of 18 with a substance use disorder. Last year alone, there were a total of 129 residents with the average length of stay being 42 days.

Help sought for victims of Vernon fire

VERNON — Efforts are underway to help residents who were displaced by a massive fire that occurred Sunday morning in an apartment complex at 26 Union St. The Cornerstone Foundation, a faith-based nonprofit that operates two homeless shelters, a soup kitchen, and a food pantry in town, is working to collect donations for the residents of the building, which has been deemed uninhabitable. The fire displaced 27 people, including four children. Cornerstone Foundation helping raise money for displaced families of Vernon fire

After 30 people were displaced due to a fire on Union Street, a local social services organization is helping those impacted.  On December 20, a fire broke out at the Fitch Block apartment building in the Rockville section of town. The Fire Marshal said the fire started due to unattended candles. In total 26 adults and four children were displaced due to the fire.  The Cornerstone Foundation and the Red Cross provided assistance initially to the families impacted. Cornerstone set up a fund for people to donate money to the families.
