Climate tensions within the Coalition could reignite as a result of a push by Nationals MPs for more coal-fired power stations.
Members of the Nationals backbench are unveiling a manufacturing blueprint with the goal of creating 800,000 jobs in the next 15 years and the construction of a new coal plant in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley.
The Australian’s Richard Ferguson told Sky News the move will once again start the year with tensions.
“Especially between Nationals MPs and the regions – particularly in those mining areas – and then in the leafy suburbs that are becoming a bit more environmentally friendly by the day,” he said.

Nationals MP David Gillespie says the proposal for more coal-fired power stations is “just common sense” and will aid Australia in reaching emissions targets.
Members of the Nationals backbench are unveiling a manufacturing blueprint with the goal of creating 800,000 jobs in the next 15 years and the construction of a new coal plant in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley.
“If you’re going to run a modern industrial economy, get manufacturing going again, you’re going to need to plan to have reliable energy,” Mr Gillespie told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

The daughter of a standover man who once admitted to taking a set of pliers to a man s testicles has been charged with his murder.
Michael John Carroll, 51, was found with multiple stab wounds at the front of a friend s house on Ronald Street at Tenambit, in New South Wales Hunter region, at 7.20pm on Saturday.
Paramedics attempted to treat Carroll at the scene though he could not be revived, Daily Telegraph reported.

The daughter of a feared standover man who once admitted to taking a set of pliers to a man s testicles has been charged with his murder.
Michael John Carroll, 51, was found with two stab wounds at the front of a friend s house on Ronald Street at Tenambit, in New South Wales Hunter region, at 7.30pm on Saturday.
Paramedics attempted to treat Carroll at the scene but he could not be revived and died on the spot.
His daughter Maddison Hickson, 23, was arrested by police and charged with his murder on Sunday morning.
