On Monday, Jan. 23, 1989, surrealist artist Salvador Dali died at the age of 84.
On Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, the Ridgewood-based First Flight Theatre Company will bring him back to life with a virtual performance of “Salvador,” the Rick Young short play imagining the waning years of the eccentric Spanish artist’s life.
The production will be performed live online 7 p.m. Sunday, then be available for on-demand viewing through 11 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27. A benefit performance for The Actors Fund, donations start at $10.
The play follows Dali as he sits in the plaza in front of the Teatro-Museo Dalí in Figueres, Spain, greeting guests as they arrive from all over the world to take a look at his collection and reminiscing about his art, life, loves and losses. Monsters, aliens and the paranormal inspire a streaming series by Vandals’ Joe Escalante [The Orange County Register]
Jan. 19 Joe Escalante has always had a fascination with monsters, aliens and the paranormal.
The Orange County native and bassist for punk rock band The Vandals grew up on monster films and the eerie 1970s TV series “In Search Of…” hosted by Leonard Nimoy. He also read books about the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot.
Escalante has manifested his love for these types of stories into a new television series, “Monsters Across America,” which he sold to Fox News’ paid streaming service, Fox Nation, last year.

I’m going to just come out and say it; barring a disaster of a training camp, Ty Smith will be starting the 2021 season on the New Jersey Devils’ blue line. Brian questioned whether he would or wouldn’t just over three months ago, but a lot has changed since that article. Since that September writing, free agency has come and I guess technically gone. With the lack of improvements made to the defense via free agency, as well as at least one player (Mirco Mueller) ahead of him on the depth chart not being re-signed, Smith seems like a no brainer to get some sheltered minutes.
