Sea safety for fishers in Tokelau receive boost

Safety at sea improved significantly for the fishers in Tokelau with more than 40 sea safety grab bags provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
An official handover of 42 safety at sea grab bags to the Government of Tokelau for local fishers in Tokelau took place on at the Tokelau Apia Liaison Office in Matautu this week.
Safety at sea relates to the ability of a vessel to return to port or more usually its island or village at the completion of a voyage or trip. FAO recognizes that fishing is one of the most dangerous professions in the world. While accidents at sea are common place around the world, small scale fishers in the Pacific are particularly highly vulnerable to accidents, including exposure to extreme weather events.

Auckland Unlimited chief executive Nick Hill is determined to tell the whole Auckland story digitally and advance deep technology to attract quality investment.
Over the next two to three years the newly-merged Auckland Unlimited will be developing a co-ordinated cultural infrastructure plan that should bring much-debated projects back on the table, with funding options.
Defining projects such the mana whenua cultural centre, performing arts studios at Aotea Square, and even a new city stadium could come alive.
The infrastructure plan is one of the high priorities for Nick Hill, who became the chief executive of the new economic and cultural development agency Auckland Unlimited when Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (Ateed) and Regional Facilities Auckland (RFA) merged on December 1.

A 22-year-old Kerikeri man has been named the country s top marine industry apprentice.
Cody Kelly, who was named the outstanding apprentice of 2020 at the New Zealand Marine and Composites Industry Training Organisation graduation function at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron base in Auckland, has worked for Bluefix Boatworks, in Opua, since he was 17.
Bluefix s Tim Hight and Wendy Croft jointly won the other major honour of the night, the trainer excellence award, for their outstanding contribution to mentoring, supporting and developing trainees and apprentices in the New Zealand marine and composite industry .
