In north Bengal, the most important stretch in terms of national security is the “Siliguri Corridor” or a stretch that starts from the Islampur subdivision of North Dinajpur and ends in Siliguri of Darjeeling district.
The width of the Indian sub-continent is slimmest in this stretch, with Bangladesh and Nepal on either side.
In the past few months, the Trinamul government in the state and the BJP government at the Centre came up with a number of new announcements and launched new infrastructure services.

Bangladesh and India are going to launch another train service between the two countries, connecting Dhaka and New Jalpaiguri (NJP) in West Bengal this time.
Covering a distance of 513 km, the non-stop passenger train with 10 compartments will start running from March 26, marking the golden jubilee of Bangladesh s independence.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, who is due to visit Dhaka on March 26-27 to attend the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence, and are expected to flag off the new train as part of the efforts to revive the rail connectivity that had existed till 1965 between the two countries, reports the Hindustan Times.
