If the sky had been any indication, you might have mistaken the gray and mist for a round at the birthplace of golf. Still, the Regions Tradition returned to smiles and excitement, drawing appreciative crowds outside after a year’s sabbatical forced by the global pandemic.
Day one at Greystone Golf & Country Club featured more than golf weather. The annual Regions Tradition celebrity pro-am features some of the biggest local celebrities and most prestigious names in golf – back again to support the tournament and the many organizations that benefit from it.
Notable SEC Coaches Headline Regions Pro-Am Tournament
The Regions Tradition Golf Tournament, held at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Hoover, will finally make its return this week after being canceled last year because of the coronavirus. The five-day event, which has raised over $19 million since the tournament’s creation in 1992, will raise money for Children’s of Alabama. Like always, several celebrities and sports figures from around the state and the southeast headline the Wednesday celebrity pro-am.
From the University of Alabama, Nick Saban, coming off his seventh total national championship, will join professional golfer Ernie Els for a tee-time at 9 a.m. Also making the drive from Tuscaloosa is Nate Oats, the Crimson Tide basketball coach that just led the team to a “Sweet 16” appearance. Oats will join Alabama Athletics Director Greg Byrne and professional golfer Mark O’Meara for an 8:30 a.m. tee-time.
