“The first child we fostered, we actually adopted and then we adopted another girl too. “I have no idea how many children we’ve fostered but a rough guess would be 450. “Some of them would be overnight stays, some short-term and some relief care for children with learning disabilities. “We felt we had a lot to offer and liked the challenge of helping other people. “We’re glad we’ve been able to help so many children and families over the years. It brought all sorts of challenges but it was always very rewarding.”

Steve Bagshaw chaired IChemE’s BioFutures Steering Committee
STEVE Bagshaw, a Fellow of IChemE, has been awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours List for his services to UK industry.
The CBE – or Commander of the Order of the British Empire – was awarded to Bagshaw for his services to the UK manufacturing and biotechnology sector. Bagshaw is Non-executive Chairman of contract development and manufacturing firm Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies and has been supporting the UK Government’s Vaccine Taskforce as an industrial advisor since April.
Bagshaw said: “It is meaningful that this recognition comes at a time when our UK and global biotechnology and manufacturing teams are working not only to develop and make the vaccines we all need but also the medicines, food, biochemicals, fuels and materials that will help us create a sustainable and healthy future for our planet.

The Covid battle continues for St Helens Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust “THE Covid time bomb has well and truly exploded at Whiston this weekend.” That was the email sent to Ann Marr, chief executive of St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals Trust at 4.45am on March 30. The hospital trust’s chief executive recently shared the powerful message with its partners, as staff fought off the dreaded second wave. “If you can imagine, we were all watching on television, first of all what was happening in Italy and then what was happening in London, and seeing particularly how the intensive care units were becoming overwhelmed really quickly,” Ms Marr said.
