UAE: Court quadruples drug addict s jail term for repeat offence

The Fujairah Court of Appeal has quadrupled a jail term handed down to a drug abuser from six months to two years.

The lower court had found the defendant guilty of doing drugs, and ordered him to serve six months in jail.
As per court records, the rehabilitating suspect was arrested red-handed while abusing narcotics despite being subjected to regular drug testing.
The blood sample collected from the ex-drug addict proved that he had consumed narcotic methamphetamine and amphetamine.
UAE: 50% discount on traffic fines ends in these emirates today

The schemes were announced to mark the occasion of the 49th UAE National Day last year.
Several emirates in the UAE had announced a 50 per cent reduction in traffic fines on the occasion of the country s 49th National Day on December 2, 2020. The scheme ends in two emirates today, January 15.
Ajman
Ajman Police had originally announced that the emirate s discount scheme would run for a month from National Day. However, on December 30, the authority extended the date, noting that violators would now be able to avail the offer till January 15.

Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah: Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, and Major General Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Mualla, Commander-in-Chief of Umm Al Quwain Police, have received the first dose of the new vaccine against COVID-19.
Police chiefs can be seen receiving the first dose of the vaccine one of the measures as part of the national programme that aims to protect community members, particularly those who are on the front lines of fighting the pandemic.
During the 49th UAE National Day, many emirates announced a 50 per cent discount on traffic fines.
Some deadlines to get the discount have expired but other emirates have extended the deadlines to encourage motorists to pay the fines.
Sharjah

Police said that all vehicle impoundments and traffic fines would be cancelled. The last day of the discount scheme will be on January 19, 2021.
