U.S. News list puts Buchholz in top 100 best Florida schools list

Buchholz math team wins state championship

Circumstances may have changed this year, but the vigor Buchholz High School’s math team has for the subject has not. For the 13th time in the past 16 years, the Bobcats once again earned the title as Florida s math team champions. Now, several team members are preparing for the chance to snatch the national title as well.  “So I guess what we did this year worked,” joked team advisor Will Frazer. “In a difficult year where everyone was packing it in, we were grinding it out. If I were anyone else (at the national competition), I wouldn’t want to go against this group.”

10 students qualify for  national physics competition,

Ten Alachua County Public Schools students qualified this year for the United States of America Physics Olympiad (USAPhO) out of just 13 public and private high school students statewide. Eight students attend Buchholz High School, which had the third-highest number of qualifiers in the nation this year, and two Eastside High School students also qualified. To qualify for the USAPhO, the students were among top scorers in the nation on a challenging exam called the F=ma, a 75-minute test with 25 questions focused on algebra-based mechanics. In the country, 333 of the highest-scoring students are now eligible to take another grueling exam covering a variety of physics-related topics, including mechanics, thermodynamics, relativity and nuclear physics.

Alachua County High Schools Now Offering COVID-19 Vaccines To Students 16 And Older By Erica Shebovsky April 23, 2021 The Florida Department of Health in Alachua County on Thursday held its first vaccine clinics at Buchholz High School and Gainesville High School. In order for students to receive their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, they are required to get their parents’ permission. Buchholz Principal Kevin Purvis said he immediately knew that offering the vaccine during the regular school day was the right thing to do. “We wanted to bring this opportunity to the school because if we can get more students vaccinated, it will help our community. Just being able to assist our students and families to help them feel good is a big plus for Buchholz,” Purvis said.
