The government-led initiative will help to identify how rapid testing could be used to reopen society
Heathrow is set to implement a government-led COVID-19 rapid testing scheme for staff in partnership with NHS Test and Trace service.
The new initiative will take place over a four-week period and will involve around 2,000 employees from the airport.
The pilot is being introduced to increase the support that’s already in place, whilst helping to stop the spread of more contagious strains. The study will also provide an indication of how rapid testing could be implemented across the UK to keep vital services running.

Respondents highlighted that they want hygiene and safety assurances to restore confidence
More than 80% of travellers are ready to take their next flight within 12 months, according to a study conducted by aerospace firm Honeywell.
The anonymous survey of almost 900 respondents from the Middle East, Turkey and Central and Eastern Europe, showed that despite the COVID-19 pandemic there is still strong underlying demand for flights.
Despite the reduction of air travel over the past year, one third of those who took part in the survey (34%) revealed they have flown during the pandemic. Out of the two thirds of people (66%) who said they haven’t taken a flight recently, approximately 81% of those people believed they would feel comfortable to fly within the next year.
