A Northland photographer has made the shortlist for New Zealand s most prestigious book awards.
Finalists for the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards, which were announced yesterday, include Nature – Stilled by Jane Ussher.
The Kerikeri photographer s book, which captures specimens from Te Papa s natural history collection, is one of four in the category for illustrated non-fiction.

One remarkable photographer is capturing the beauty and wonder of motherhood along with the hearts of we the viewers by taking some extraordinary portraits of mother and child from all parts of the world.
Mihaela Noroc, a Romanian photographer, is known for her photographs of 500 women from over 50 different countries. She created the top-selling book “Atlas of Beauty,” while backpacking across the globe with her camera.
Now, her latest collection focuses on the bond between mothers and children from a rich spectrum of cultures throughout the world from Kathmandu, to the Andes Mountains in Peru, to New York City.

By Kwon Mee-yoo Art is an accurate statement of the time in which it is made, said American photographer Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989). Now the world seen by Mapplethorpe some 40 years ago will get a chance to resonate with Korean audiences half a world away.
Best known for his black-and-white photographs of celebrities, sculptural nudes, BDSM scenes and flowers, Mapplethorpe is being introduced to Korean audiences belatedly through a retrospective at the Kukje Gallery in Seoul and Busan.
