The best day trips from Salt Lake City

The best day trips from Salt Lake City Lonely Planet Editors 9 March 2021 It s no wonder that Salt Lake City has exploded in popularity in recent years – it s nearly as synonymous with outdoor recreation as it is with the Mormon faith. With its close proximity to the unique sodium chloride formations to the east, the Wasatch Mountains to the west, and countless hiking, biking, skiing, and even spelunking opportunities within two hours drive, it s no wonder the SLC metro is growing.  From herds of wild bison to sprawling sculptures that fit right into Utah s epic landscapes to family-friendly old west history to ski towns that offer thrills and frills, there s a little something for everyone. And the best part of all is that you can fit each of those adventures into a quick there-and-back-again if you re short on time. We narrowed it down to the top ten day trips from Salt Lake City.

Downtown State College High-Rises Changing Small Town Feel

It’s no secret that downtown State College has turned a corner in the architectural world. Gradually going from six to eight-story buildings like Beaver Hill to new modern high-rises like the HERE has left State College feeling a little less like the borough we all used to know. It seems like every time students come back for a new fall semester a new building is being worked on downtown. It first started in 2016 with the 12-story Fraser Centre at 217 W. Beaver Ave. But the Fraser Centre is not student housing. It was built to bring in adults outside the immediate Penn State community to the downtown scene.

Core Spaces State College

Core Spaces State College 6:42 pm Since late 2019 the Chicago based Core Spaces group took control of Alexander Court, Beaver Hill, Cedarbrook, Garner Court and the Diplomat before adding Park Hill to the list. I’m told that they have plans to renovate those buildings in the near future for more space and newer looks as well. However, they are not done here, as a borough official confirmed Core Spaces plans to build a twelve story monster with commercial space on the corner of College Avenue and Hetzel Street. “It’s always nice to see brand new development, increased commercial spaces, and especially as we hopefully return to normal post this pandemic. Our community continues to grow and foster a vibrancy but also, you know, hopefully we’re able to still capture that tradition and the essence of what people love about the community as well.”
