Gateway Rail Freight and Maersk have jointly flagged their first automotive express service from Gurugram to APM Terminals Pipavav (Gujarat Pipavav Port). The train started from GatewayRail’s flagship terminal its Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Gurugram on Tuesday. This terminal is connected to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. “This will be an exclusive Maersk service to cater to the automotive sector in the National Capital Region (NCR) by providing assured connection to the westbound MECL Service of Maersk from APM Terminals at Pipavav Port,” a statement from GatewayRail said. The westbound MECL Service of Maersk is a shipping line originating from Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates to Houston in the United States of America. It has stoppages in Pakistan, India, Oman, and Spain, among others, on the way.
First ONE double stack export container train flagged off to Pipavav Port by GatewayRail
The first double stack train was flagged off from ICD Gurugram (Garhi Harsaru) to APM Terminals Pipavav by GatewayRail Freight Ltd. (a subsidiary of Gateway Distriparks Ltd.) and Ocean Network Express (ONE), which will provide assured connection to exporters. The double stack train transported 180 TEUs in a single journey.
The commodities carried were auto spare parts, laminated sheets, machinery parts, tiles, cotton yarn, motorcycles and air conditioners etc. The containers were for export to the destinations such as Colombo, Jakarta, Bangkok, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Singapore among others. Currently, GatewayRail operates three weekly ‘Sakura’ import services through Pipavav Port for ONE; while this is the first export container train exclusively moved for ONE. The frequency of export containers through Pipavav is likely to increase further with this initiative.

Alok Kansal, General Manager of Western Railway undertook annual inspection of Pipavav-Bhavnagar section of Bhavnagar Division on 3rd March, 2021. During the annual inspection, Kansal closely inspected safety aspects such as railway point and crossings, major and minor bridges, electronic interlocking system, curves etc. of this section. WR GM also took stock of passenger facilities at Lilia Mota, Dhola, Songadh and Bhavnagar Terminus stations. The CMA CGM Group, a world leader in shipping and logistics, is pleased to announce the launch of CMA CGM – GatewayRail PYTHON Train Service on February 1st, 2021 on Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) from New Kishangarh Junction, Rajasthan.
The two Double stack ‘Ship to Rail’ dedicated trains, one leaving from Mundra and the other from Pipavav, were clubbed at New Kishangarh Junction for the onward journey on the WDFC to New Ateli Junction and were split from there for GatewayRail’s Inland Container Depot – Gurugram (Garhi Harsaru)
