Tramonte on July 30 was hiking on Camelback Mountain when she was reported missing at about 1 p.m. by a man who had been with her, according to a news release from Phoenix police spokesperson Sgt. Mercedes Fortune.
Fortune on Monday referred to the man as a witness and identified him only as an off-duty Phoenix police officer. Law enforcement does not usually identify witnesses publicly.
Officials did not specify how Tramonte and the man knew each other. While announcing the woman s body was found, Phoenix fire Captain Rob McDade referred to the pair as companion hikers.
He also said Tramonte was visiting from the Boston metro area and possibly was unfamiliar with the terrain and hiking in Phoenix s elements.
