Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis filed notice with the Fulton Superior Court on Tuesday that she plans to seek the death penalty and enhanced hate crimes charges against Long in the first test of a hate crime law passed by the Georgia Legislature last year.

I, along with my staff, have made a determination that this office will seek the death penalty, Willis told reporters. Last year, I told the voters of Fulton County that I could not imagine a circumstance where I would seek it. And at that time I did not.

ATLANTA, Georgia Robert Aaron Long, the suspect in the shootings that left eight people dead at three Atlanta-area Asian spas, has been indicted on murder charges, with prosecutors seeking the death penalty for hate crimes targeting the sex and race of the victims, according to a source familiar with the criminal investigation.

Famous Atlanta restaurant badly damaged by fallen tree

ATLANTA - A famous Atlanta fast-food restaurant that s been a staple for more than 70 years is closing at least for the near future.
Zesto s Little Five Points location was severely damaged when a tree fell on top of the roof on Friday. As hard as the past year has been, it took a giant tree to fall in L5P and knock us out of business, a post on the restaurant s Facebook page said.
Zesto vice president Lee Ann Livaditis said the tree fell Friday early afternoon while she and her husband were out of town for their son s college graduation. She said no one was injured in the incident.
Citywide Brush Pickup to begin May 10
The Oak Ridge citywide brush pickup program will begin Monday, May 10.
Tree limbs and bagged yard clippings and leaves will be picked up, a city news release stated. City collection efforts will follow the accompanying schedule as closely as possible.The proposed schedule is a general guide and can vary considerably from the actual schedule due to weather conditions and/or the amount of participation by residents.
All limbs should be placed near, but not beyond the curb, with the butt end near the street. Keep all materials off sidewalks, parking areas and out of gutters.
