Petersburg outbreak up to 10 active cases; Superintendent explains distance learning situation Posted by Angela Denning | Jan 5, 2021 Petersburg is seeing its highest COVID-19 active case count since the start of the pandemic and officials are cautioning about the virus spreading in the community. This outbreak has changed operations this week at the hospital and the schools. Petersburg’s emergency operations center Tuesday announced three more COVID positive test results, all in the same family and connected to other cases already announced. Petersburg is now reporting 10 active cases with eight new positives in the last week and a 2.4 percent positivity rate. That’s a rolling average of the number of cases per day based on the past week.

Petersburg’s emergency operations center announced the new case Saturday, December 26. Alaska Public Health was notified of this positive test result from earlier in the month for a local resident who is out of state and won’t return until they are fully recovered. Nevertheless it shows up on the case count for Petersburg, now with this one active case and a total of 38 reported for the community, both resident and non-residents, since the start of the pandemic.

(Joe Viechnicki/KFSK) Petersburg’s borough assembly Monday approved an agreement for voluntary COVID-19 testing for employees at the borough’s Mountain View Manor assisted living facility. They also voted to extend other agreements for airport testing and quarantine or isolation space for individuals without a permanent home. After voting down mandatory testing for manor workers earlier in the month, assembly member Jeff Meucci wanted to see a vote on a voluntary testing program.
