Cambridgeshire Metro Mayor campaign begins

“In between hail storms, I went to Northstowe with Firouz Thompson and St Neots with Geoff Seeff.”  Mayor Palmer tweeted that he had “almost got blown away in Peterborough today but it was good to be able to get out on the campaign trail!”.  As in 2017, the supplementary vote system will be used to elect the mayor for a four-year term of office, which means an eliminating around ahead of the final head-to-head.  The Greens and Independents are yet to announce candidates but in the first round of voting four years ago, 20 per cent of the votes went to the UKIP, Green, Independent and English Democrat candidates.

Walkers and cyclists in March to benefit from £60k as delivery of 'Quick Wins' gathers pace

 | Updated: 13:54, 12 March 2021 It’s hoped that more people will take to active travel in March after the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority agreed to spend £60,000 on quick win schemes. Wednesday s transport and infrastructure committee recommended the Combined Authority draw down £60k to help make walking and cycling around March easier, safer and more enjoyable. Committee members noted how more of March’s ‘Quick Wins’ have been delivered with others moving into construction. Councillors Jan French and Steve Count campaigned for a zebra crossing in St Peter s Road, which was delivered as a Quick Win scheme. Following updates on delivery of the Quick Wins , members unanimously agreed to recommend the budget for developing a programme of schemes for walkers and cyclists as part of the overall March Area Transport Study.
