“All my ideas have murders in them,” Peter Swanson once told an interviewer. In most contexts, it might be something of a warning sign, but for an author of mystery novels, it’s probably something closer to destiny manifesting as morbid obsession. Swanson published his first novel,
The Girl With A Clock For A Heart, in 2014. One of those read-it-in-one-sitting genre bingeables that dominate the fiction shelves of WHSmith branches up and down the country, it was something of a statement of intent. Building proudly on one of the all-time classic Hollywood thriller set-ups, Swanson’s almost cinematic debut followed George Foss, a directionless late-thirtysomething whose life is turned upside down when an ex-lover presumed dead reappears in his life, two decades after she disappeared. A handful more novels of similar dramatic inclination have followed at a rate of almost one a year, culminating in this year’s

Plainview librarian named vice chair of state library association committee
Staff reports
The City of Plainview Unger Memorial Chief Librarian Cynthia Peterson was chosen to serve as the Vice-Chair of the Texas Library Association Lariat Committee. Peterson currently completed her first year of a three-year board term, according to a news release from the city.
The committee is tasked with creating the Lariat Adult Fiction Reading List. Since 2009, the goal of the List is to highlight outstanding fiction that is simply “a pleasure to read.” Each year, 25 outstanding fiction titles are selected by the nine-member Lariat committee.
“Selecting books for the Unger Library is part of my job and the committee was a natural fit,” said Peterson. “It allowed me the opportunity to read a variety of books I wouldn’t normally read and offer a larger variety to our patrons.”
