TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - A Tifton man was sentenced to federal prison without parole after robbing a bank by telling the bank clerk he had a bomb, according to Peter Leary, acting U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Georgia.
Randy Angelo Hill, 35, was sentenced to serve six years in prison by U.S. District Judge Louis Sands on Wednesday. Hill previously pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A convicted felon that was caught carrying a firearm during a traffic stop in Lowndes County pleaded guilty in federal court, according to Peter Leary, the acting U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia.
James Richard Shivers, 32, of Valdosta, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon before U.S District Judge Louis Sands in Albany federal court. Shivers faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. Leary’s office said there is no parole in the federal system.

Athens-Clarke police help feds nab inmate dealing drugs from prison
A state prison inmate who federal authorities said was dealing drugs from his prison cell was identified and set up by a confidential source working with Athens-Clarke police.
The inmate, Frankie Baza, 33, of Flowery Branch was charged with conspiring to distribute methamphetamine from prison. On Wednesday, he pleaded guilty in federal court in Athens.
U.S. District Court Judge Ashley Royal plans to sentence Baza on May 6. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
Federal authorities announced Thursday that police in Athens developed a source in January 2019 who informed them that Baza was a source for meth.

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - A man is facing a maximum of ten years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm, according to Peter Leary, acting U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Georgia.
Jamie Dean Fountain, 31, of Valdosta, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on Feb. 9. He will be sentenced later (Source: Clinch Co. Sheriff)
Along with the maximum of 10 years in prison, he also faces three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. A sentencing date has not been set.
