Council needs to 'lift its game' as Christchurch residents voice disapproval

Tina Law18:47, Jun 03 2021 ALDEN WILLIAMS/Stuff Chlorinated water is one of the things Christchurch residents are unhappy about. Christchurch residents are upset at the state of the city’s roads and chlorine in the water as the council’s approval rating hits a 14-year low. Just 49 per cent of people are satisfied with services provided by the city council, according to the organisation’s annual residents survey. The figure is marginally worse than the 50 per cent reported last year, but is way down from the 62 per cent in 2019 and 79 per cent in 2007 when the question was first asked. Some 22 per cent of the 6133 respondents were dissatisfied with the council’s ability to fix roads and repair potholes, 16 per cent were unhappy about chlorine still being in the water and 12 per cent were unhappy with the council’s decision-making and financial management.
