Aleksei Golovan, 38, was sentenced at Selkirk Sheriff Court A FORMER soldier who admitted being the gardener for two major cannabis cultivations in the Borders has been jailed for 20 months. Drugs with a street value of £73,000 were found in Hawick after police searched two properties in the town. Aleksei Golovan, 38, who served with the Russian army but now has Estonian citizenship, pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court to charges of producing cannabis and being concerned in the supply of the class B drug. The offences happened between May and June last year at houses in Duke Street and Princes Street in Hawick.

Bradley Pedder, 38, pleaded guilty to the theft by housebreaking offence at The Fleet in Mason Wynd, Eyemouth, on November 20. Jedburgh Sheriff Court was told that at 12.40am police officers were in the area dealing with another enquiry when they heard repeated banging and an alarm going off. Connor Muir, prosecuting, said: They investigated a disturbance and found the pub window had been broken. They quickly came across the accused and he was found to have £13.51 on his person which had come from the public house.

Photo: Helen Barrington A WOMAN who caused two disturbances at the Borders General Hospital (BGH) within the space of a fortnight has been warned she faces custody if she commits a similar offence. Rachel Etherington, 51, of Fordel Gardens, Melrose, pleaded guilty at Jedburgh Sheriff Court to obstructing an emergency worker in the hospital s casualty department in August. A fortnight later she caused another disturbance and admitted two counts of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and also an assault charge. Defence lawyer Colin Severin said his client had been struggling with a dependency on alcohol and the loss of her employment in May resulted in a relapse.
