The Hudson Catholic High School boys’ basketball team was at the pinnacle of all local squads, having won a record seven straight Hudson County championships prior to two seasons ago.
But then upstart Union City knocked the Hawks from their perch and last year, it was St. Peter’s Prep’s turn, and suddenly, almost too swiftly, Hudson Catholic went from being a dominant dynasty to an almost afterthought.

Jonathan Fernando appointed Country Manager for Qatar Airways Daily News (via HT Media Ltd.)
Jonathan Fernando was recently appointed as the Country Manager for Qatar Airways in Sri Lanka and Maldives. His portfolio holds 18 years of experience in Airline Sales and Operations, in both Passenger & Cargo fields. A old boy of St. Peter’s College, Jonathan began his Airline career as a Management Trainee with Lufthansa Cargo (GSA – Delmege) back in early 2003.
Having shifted gears from a Cargo background, he then moved to the Passenger Sales team of Malaysia Airlines (GSA – Hemas) in late 2005 as a Sales Executive and in a span of nine years was promoted up until he held a portfolio as Marketing Manager. Thereon, Jonathan moved into the District Sales Manager role for Oman Air (GSA – Hayleys) in Sri Lanka.
The Catholic Archbishop of Glasgow Philip Tartaglia has died after contracting Covid-19.
Tributes have poured in for the religious leader, described as a fine man who was a huge fan of Scottish giants Celtic FC.
The 70-year-old, who had served as Archbishop of Glasgow since 2012, tested positive for coronavirus shortly after Christmas and was self-isolating at home.
The Catholic Church in Scotland said the cause of his death was not yet clear.

The Hudson Catholic High School girls’ basketball team had a fantastic season a year ago, but then suffered a tough loss to Bayonne in the Hudson County Tournament championship game.
“It stings for a while,” said Hudson Catholic head coach
Pete Vincent. “It’s a feeling that is not fun. As a coach and our staff, we immediately embraced it. We now have to find a way to use it to our advantage. It’s definitely not what we wanted. We had two seniors and that’s what hurts me the most is that we lost for them.”

HOMECorp was founded in 1988 by a dedicated group of community volunteers who saw the need to preserve affordability in Montclair. Since its founding, over 30 years ago, HOMECorp has developed nearly 200 units of affordable rental and owned housing in Montclair. HOMECorp also has a counseling department that offers first-time buyer workshops, foreclosure prevention services, and post-closing ownership support. HOMECorp creates and maintains housing that preserves economic diversity and ignites community revitalization while fostering financial empowerment.
Two new Trustees, Deb Morrone-Collela and Carmel Loughman, will be joining HOMECorp’s Board January 1, 2021.
