Hi-Liners Get Six #1 Seeds For State

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – In this time of COVID, the State Wrestling Tournament is set up a bit differently than in years past in Class A. Since there were no regional tournaments in Class A, the seeding process was a bit different. The East and West Region were seeded separately with the top eight wrestlers in each weight class. Then at the state tournament, they would cross bracket. I.E. , the west #1 would wrestle the east #8, East #1 wrestler West #8 etc. The other 16 wrestlers would be a random draw. 32 wrestlers were allowed for each weight class, but none of the weights have that many. The number of wrestlers range from 19, at 195 to 26 at 152.

Blue Jays Outlasted by #2 Minot

JAMESTOWN ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The #5 Jamestown Blue Jays couldn’t hold on to a halftime lead as #2 Minot stormed back to beat Jamestown 67-62. Jamestown got off to a good start, leading by 14 going into the break. The Blue Jays got major production from Luke Van Berkom, filling in as a starter, who finished with 10 points. Jamestown was without two starters on Thursday, as both Ty Monson and Keith Levin were unable to go. Carson Lamp led the way in scoring for the Jays with 15 points. Seniors Jacob Hilgemann and Brooks Carroll both finished in double figures. Hilgemann had 13 and Carroll scored 12.

Jones would go on to win by way of fall at the 4:50 mark, helping Minot to a 42-26 victory. The Magicians were able to defend their home turf on Thursday, recording a 42-26 win over Bishop Ryan in their first match of the day, then beating conference rival Bismarck Legacy 41-26 to complete a two-match sweep. As for the Lions, they lost to Legacy 54-27 prior to taking on Minot. Against Bishop Ryan, the Magi won two of its first three showdowns on the mat. Kade Marker (106) got the pin against Riley Weeks at the 1:08 mark, and Tyler Nelson (120) earned a 9-3 decision over Octavio Alvarez. Then at 132 pounds, Minot’s Victor Garcia ended his battle Parker Baier with a second period pin, and senior Paden Combs notched a 7-2 decision victory at 145.
